The husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, First Gentleman Hafidh Ameir Hassan, has died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Zanzibar.
Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi announced his death in a recorded video address on Monday, September 7, saying Hassan had been suffering from a heart condition.
Ndejembi said Hassan died on Monday at 8:00 am local time at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar.
The Vice President said funeral arrangements were underway in Kizimkazi, a village in Zanzibar.
The First Gentleman and President Samia had three sons and a daughter, and married in 1978.
