KAMPALA - "Police in Katwe Division have continued with an operation in Wansanso Zone, Kibuye II Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala, targeting suspected stolen motorcycles and spare parts," Luke Owoyesigyire said.
He revealed that following the operation that commenced on April 20th, 2026, a search was conducted on Wednesday, April 22nd 2026, starting at about 9: 00 pm.
"Eight shops were cordoned off and searched, leading to the recovery of additional spare parts believed to belong to approximately 200 motorcycles," he stated.
Among the recovered items were: 28 Ugandan motorcycle number plates; eight tracking devices; three number plates yet to be fully identified: one South Sudan number plate: three Kenyan motorcycle number plates: and three intact motorcycles with vandalised number plates.
"Later in the evening, another operation was conducted to apprehend suspects linked to the recovered exhibits," Owoyesigyire said.
He revealed that one suspect, Faisal Kavuma, was arrested at Shell Kibuye, and a search in his shop led to the recovery of one brand-new motorcycle without a number plate, along with several spare parts.
"Another suspect, Alex Sonko, a resident of Kinawa in Nateete, was also arrested after he was found with motorcycle registration number UFC 830R, a red Bajaj Boxer, which is suspected to have been stolen," Owoyesigyire stated.
He said a third suspect, Mike Matovu, was later arrested in Ndeeba in connection with the same operation.
"Investigations are ongoing, and efforts to recover more stolen motorcycles and apprehend other suspects continue," he added.
Owoyesigyire said police remain committed to combating motorcycle theft and dismantling criminal networks involved in illegal spare parts trade.
