St. Lawrence University has been banned from the University Football League for two seasons by the Disciplinary Committee after finding them guilty of fielding ineligible players.

This follows Kampala University, a side they eliminated to reach the semifinals filling a petition against the use of ineligible players by SLAU in violation of UFL Rule 24 which states, “A team that is found to have fielded an ineligible player in a league match shall lose the match by forfeiture to the opposing team.”

This means that SLAU, the guilty team in this case, loses the quarterfinal to KU who now automatically match to the semifinals where they will face Nkumba University on Tuesday next week for their first leg.

The players that caused SLAU problems are Saziri Nkonge, Michael Abura, Michael Kayongo, Trevor Mulwana, Ivan Ssemujju and Henry Kayembe.

SLAU too has been slapped with a fine of sh1.3m, sh1m payable to the committee, and sh300,000 to KU, the successful petitioner.

SLAU joins Bishop Stuart University Mbarara as the other side to have been kicked out of the league this season for a similar vice. It is also important to recall that Kyambogo was also suspended for two seasons due to hooliganism.
