SLAU v Gulu

3pm, Kavule

St. Lawrence University (SLAU) will have one foot in the knockout stage of this season’s Pepsi University Football League if they maintain their perfect start and beat Gulu University at Crown City Kavule tomorrow.

They currently lie atop Group E with 6 points from 2 games having beaten Nkumba 3-1 at home and IUEA 3-1 away.

A win against Gulu will see them stretch the gap between them and second place Nkumba to 5 points all but guaranteeing a place for them in the knockout stage for the fourth consecutive season.

However, SLAU head coach Davis Ssozi insists it is not over yet and they need to take their games seriously as they won’t be easy games.

“There are no easy games. All teams come with the mentality to try and beat us but we are ready for the challenge. We will do our best and try to win,” Nnono said.

Nnono says for the team to succeed in the game, they need to play their normal game as they have trained enough. He called on the fans to turn up in large numbers to show support for the team.

“What we have to do is just play our normal game and try to do the right things. And of course our fans, we really depend on them as the 12th man and should turn up in large numbers just like in the last game and give the team support,” he added.

Meanwhile Gulu University coach Robert Omony admits that he doesn't expect an easy match against their rivals.

However, Omony is hopeful they can secure their first league win after a poor start to the season but will face a strenuous challenge from St. Lawrence.

“A win would be a perfect result, a draw would be a good result, but we are aware of the team we are taking on, they mean business but we have a plan and hope it works,” Omony said.

Omony does not think it will take much to get his squad to believe in itself that they can make a turn around.

“St Lawrence is a big challenge. It is one of the best teams in the league thus all our departments must be on alert if we must have a better performance,” Omony said.
