Police in Madi-Okollo district have launched an investigation into the brutal killing of a young woman, which has shocked the local community.
The 22-year-old victim, Charity Dokoto, was murdered on April 9, 2025, at around 8:30pm in Upper Parabok village, Parabok parish, Pawor subcounty, Madi-Okollo district.
According to police, Dokoto is suspected to have been killed by her husband, identified as Godwin Ongom, a security guard based in Kampala, originally from Pagwaya village, Panduku parish, Pawor subcounty.
West Nile Region police spokesperson, SP Collins Asea, confirmed the incident.
Police reports indicate that Ongom, who is currently on the run, travelled to Pawor on April 9 and arrived at the scene around the time of the incident.
He reportedly found Dokoto in the corridor of a building at Pawor trading centre, where she was accompanied by her younger sister. Ongom allegedly attacked her, cutting off her right breast and fleeing the scene with it.
The victim was rushed to Pawor Health Centre III, where she was pronounced dead.
Following the attack, angry relatives of the deceased stormed Ongom’s home village and set fire to 15 grass-thatched huts. Police intervened and restrained the group to prevent the situation from escalating further.
SP Asea confirmed that the police responded swiftly and that the body of the deceased was taken to Nebbi Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Security remains on high alert in the area.
The suspect, Ongom, remains at large as police continue the manhunt.
