Police urge vehicle maintenance after bus fire incident

According to West Nile Police spokesperson Collins Asea, the bus—registration number UBD 216R—was en route to Kampala from Arua city when a group of boda boda riders flagged down the driver to inform him that the rear wheels were on fire.

Asea said the driver promptly stopped the vehicle and successfully evacuated all passengers and their luggage to safety. (Files)

WEST NILE - Police in West Nile have urged motorists to exercise caution and ensure their vehicles are regularly maintained to prevent fire-related incidents.

This follows a fire that engulfed a Nile Star bus on the Arua city–Nebbi highway in Madi-Okollo district on Monday, June 2, 2025.

According to West Nile Police spokesperson Collins Asea, the bus—registration number UBD 216R—was en route to Kampala from Arua city when a group of boda boda riders flagged down the driver to inform him that the rear wheels were on fire.

Asea said the driver promptly stopped the vehicle and successfully evacuated all passengers and their luggage to safety.

He added that officers from the division visited the scene to ensure the safety of passengers and their property.
