In the early hours of March 15, 2024, the vigilance and bravery of a private guard attached to Cheetah Security, identified as Moses Odongo, came to the forefront as he single-handedly foiled an armed robbery attempt at Tonix Forex Bureau in Kampala city's Nakawa division.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga says as the clock struck 1:00 am, Moses, stationed at his guard point, spotted two individuals vandalising a Pajero with registration number UBK 519C.

Without hesitation, he fired two shots at the perpetrators, forcing them to flee on their getaway motorcycle. Unperturbed by the initial encounter, the thugs returned shortly after, accompanied by an armed accomplice wielding an AK 47 rifle and carrying a bag, according to Enanga.

“Undeterred, Odongo once again sprang into action, opening fire at the assailants and successfully injuring both the rider and the second suspect. Their third accomplice managed to evade capture, fleeing the scene. With swift response, the Police team arrived and seized crucial evidence, including the AK 47 rifle, ammunition, a breaking implement, and the getaway motorcycle, all of which were later exhibited at Kira Road Central Police Station," Enanga says

He made the remarks during the weekly joint security briefing on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.

According to Enanga, the two apprehended suspects were identified as Lawrence Kibuuka, armed with a gun, and boda boda rider Musejule Ivan.

“Their attempted robbery was thwarted, thanks to Odongo's commendable actions, which not only prevented potential loss and harm to the Forex bureau but also safeguarded the lives of those in the vicinity,” Enanga said.

The spokesperson said the leadership of the Police lauded Odongo for his bravery, tact, and skill in disabling the would-be robbers, emphasizing that his quick reaction undoubtedly averted a potentially devastating situation.

The company, Cheetah Security, was also commended for the exemplary performance of its guard, underscoring the importance of well-trained security personnel in safeguarding against criminal threats and maintaining public safety.
