Police have recovered a rifle that was stolen earlier this month from a private security guard in Wakiso district.

The firearm was stolen on March 9 from a guard deployed at Stabex fuel station in Namakonkome village, Matugga. It has now been recovered after being found concealed in a nearby plantation.

Addressing journalists at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday (March 23), Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed the development.

“The rifle that was earlier stolen from a security guard at Stabex fuel station in Matugga has been successfully recovered. It was discovered concealed in a plantation by a resident who alerted police,” Kawala said.

According to police, the weapon was found by a woman who had gone to work in her garden and noticed an object resembling a firearm, prompting her to notify authorities.

The gun has since been secured and exhibited as evidence.

Kawala noted that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the suspects behind the robbery.

“We are actively pursuing the individuals responsible for the theft of this firearm, and they will be apprehended and brought to justice,” she added.

Police have reiterated their call for vigilance among the public, urging residents to promptly report any suspicious items or individuals to security agencies.
