Renovation works at Karuziika palace start

The renovation works at Karuziika royal palace have commenced today (August 31) as Tooro kingdom awaits the remains of the deceased King, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The renovation works, which are being done by the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) engineering brigade, involve reconstruction of the road leading to the palace.
King Oyo was pronounced dead on Thursday evening (August 27), and since then, his subjects have been thronging the palace to mourn his demise.
A number of activities have been taking place at the palace since his demise. The head of the royal clan, Omusuga Charles Kamurasi, said they are expecting very many visitors.
"We have put several committees in place to ensure that all our visitors are well accommodated during this grieving time," he said.
Herbert Mugisha, the chairperson of the works and infrastructure committee, said that they are going to improve all the structures at the palace.
"We appreciate the UPDF for the support. So far, we are working on Karambi royal tombs and the road leading to the palace," Mugisha said.
Victor Kukundakwe, a resident of Fort Portal, said that they are eagerly waiting for the body of the king.
"I have been here at the palace since Friday waiting for the body of my king. I loved him so much," Kukundakwe said.
