President Museveni at Entebbe to receive King Oyo’s remains

ENTEBBE - At about 9:58am, Friday, President Yoweri Museveni arrived at Entebbe International Airport to receive the remains of the late Omukama of Tooro Kingdom, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

The casket containing the Omukama's body departed Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in the United States on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, en route back to Uganda.

At Entebbe, President Museveni is expected to receive the remains of the late King and pay his last respects. Also present at Entebbe are the king's relatives, several government dignitaries, and religious leaders, among others.

From Entebbe, the funeral programme will move into a carefully planned procession intended to allow the people of Tooro to witness the return of their King.

The military will airlift the casket by helicopter from Entebbe to Kyegegwa District, from where the remains will begin the final road journey towards Karuziika palace in Fort Portal.

The casket will be placed on an open, slow-moving carriage, allowing mourners and subjects along the route to pay their last respects.

Thereafter, the Kingdom will begin a formal nine-day mourning period.

According to the head of the Babiito royal clan, Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi, after the mourning period, "King Oyo's body will be laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs on September 12, 2026."

Oyo's body from the US is accompanied by nine people, including Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, the King's sister, Princess Ruth Komuntale, Komuntale’s husband and other cousins.
