Pomp as hundreds turn up for first Hoima City Carnival

Hundreds of people from around the country stormed the streets of Hoima over the weekend to participate in the first annual city carnival.

The carnival, also dubbed “Explore Bunyoro", was co-sponsored by the tourism ministry, Vision Group, and MTN Uganda, among other corporate companies.

The two-day event started on Friday evening up to Sunday morning in the different parts of the city with revelers moving in the different parts of the city.

Vibrant sounds were playing in the different tents of exhibitors and stages that had been set for musicians to entertain the revelers.

Several entertainment groups ranging from dancers, bikers, and skaters donned in colorful T-shirts displayed their skills as crowds cheered them on.

Tourism state minister Martin Mugara said as part of the International Tourism Day celebrations which were held in Hoima, they carried out the Explore Bunyoro campaign to promote local tourism.

“We are unlocking the tourism potential of Bunyoro and I'm happy that the carnival has been able to attract several people, we have visited several tourism sites and there is a lot to see in Bunyoro,” Mugara said.

Entertainer kickboxer, Moses Golola, artists Spice Diana, Irene Ntale, and Palaso, among others, performed in Hoima City.

Hoima City mayor Bryan Kaboyo, who has been behind the city carnival, said it will act as a platform to rally city dwellers together and celebrate the city.

Kaboyo said the festival is aimed at preserving history and tradition and strives to stimulate the local economy, tourism, entertain and involve the community and visitors in a fun–filled atmosphere.
