Uganda launches campaign to promote tourism in Bunyoro

A campaign to promote tourism in Bunyoro sub-region is underway.  

The Uganda  government through the Ministry of Tourism will on Thursday officially  flag off the campaign  scheduled to last for 10 days

According to (Rtd) Col. Tom Butime, Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, guests are expected to visit several tourism sites in the different parts of Bunyoro sub region

“The purpose of this campaign is to unlock the potential tourism opportunities in Bunyoro, this event is part of the commemoration of the International Tourism Day which was held in Hoima on Wednesday 27 September 2023,” Butime said.

Butime said that Bunyoro has very many tourism attraction sites and the ministry is working with all stakeholders in ensuring that people explore them.

 

On International Tourism Day, celebration activities included; a tourism stakeholders conference in Hoima, exhibitions, a visit to accomplished projects, the launching of the Hoima City carnival funded by UNDP, a Wildlife Conservation competition, and contests in art and creative writing, essay writing competitions, among others.

 Bunyoro guests will tour Kibiro hot springs and salt mines, conduct corporate social responsibility at Kigorobya Primary School, visit Mparo tombs, Bwendero Agro-Tourism Farm, Itohya Forest and Bwendero Agro-Tourism Farm.

On 30 September, 2023,  guests will travel to Bulisa for the scenic views of Butiaba Escarpment and the rift valley and stop over at Butiaba Port then top of the falls in Murchison Falls National Park.

“People are going to understand the tourism potentials of Bunyoro. As a ministry we have ensured that they visit all the sites including the royal palace (Karuzika) in Hoima City,” Butime said.

Districts in Bunyoro sub-region in Western Uganda are:

Hoima District.

  • Kagadi District.
  • Kakumiro District.
  • Kibaale District.
  • Kikuube District.
  • Kiryandongo District.
  • Masindi District.

According to Butime Uganda ranks among the topmost biodiversity-rich countries globally as its home to 53.9% almost half of the remaining mountain gorilla population in the world, 11% of recorded bird species, 8% of global mammal diversity (which is 39% of Africa’s mammal richness), 19% of Africa’s amphibian species, 14% of Africa’s reptile species richness and a recorded 1,249 of butterflies species.
