MUKONO - Police have confirmed they are reviewing closed-circuit TV (CCTV) camera footage to establish the exact circumstances under which a student drowned at Mukono district-based Seeta High School, Mbalala campus last week.

Speaking to the media during the joint security weekly briefing at Police headquarters, Naguru, Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said the August 4, 2025, incident involved a student identified as Kevin Nsamba, who drowned in the school’s swimming pool.

“We visited the scene, retrieved and reviewed the CCTV footage to establish the true account of how the student met his demise,” Kituuma said on August 11.

He added that the swimming pool caretaker, assigned by the school to ensure the safety of users, has been arrested and charged, pending guidance from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Kituuma urged schools, hotels and recreational facilities with swimming pools to invest in CCTV systems, hire qualified lifeguards and enforce strict safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies.

“One of the things that helped us in this case was CCTV. Imagine if it wasn’t there — speculation would have taken over the narrative,” he said.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
