Police probe Kiwatule-Ntinda kiosks fire

Police have launched an investigation into a fire outbreak that ravaged a row of kiosks along Ntinda-Kiwatule Road in Kinawataka, Bukoto II Parish, Nakawa Division, on the night of May 27, 2025.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire says the fire started at around 10:00pm and quickly spread through several roadside kiosks housing small businesses.

“Our team at Ntinda Police Station received the alert promptly and immediately dispatched officers to the scene,” Owoyesigyire said, “Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded with multiple firefighting units and successfully contained the blaze before it could extend to other nearby properties.”

The kiosks affected were operated by local entrepreneurs running coffee shops, small hotels and interior design businesses. Although the fire destroyed significant property, Police confirmed that no deaths or serious injuries were reported.

“The exact cause of the fire remains unknown at this point,” Owoyesigyire added on May 28. “Our investigations are underway to establish what triggered the incident.”

In the meantime, Police have urged business owners in the area to ensure their premises adhere to basic fire safety standards to prevent future tragedies.
