Police say they have arrested a suspect, recovered a motorcycle and stolen property following a spate of aggravated robberies reported in Kampala city's Nakawa Division.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire says the incidents occurred on the night of January 6, 2026, in Nsimbiziwome and Kigowa One, Bukoto Two parish, prompting a co-ordinated Police operation involving officers from Ntinda and Kiwatule police stations.

Owoyesigyire said the first robbery was reported at about 9:00pm in Nsimbiziwome, where a teacher identified as Patrick Kasasa was attacked by a gang riding on motorcycles and robbed of electronic devices valued at about shillings four million.

“The victim was assaulted by suspects moving on motorcycles and lost a Samsung Galaxy phone, a Chromebook, a Dell laptop, and a Galaxy tablet,” Owoyesigyire said.

About 50 minutes later, two more robberies were reported along Valley Road in Kigowa.

According to Police, Shadia Namaganda, a businesswoman, was robbed of an iPhone 11 Pro Max, an Itel phone, her national identification card, and cash (shillings 3.5 million), while Bosco Musobya, a driver, lost a Samsung Galaxy phone, a wallet containing his driving permit and national ID, and cash shillings 420,000), with the combined losses estimated at over shillings 3.9 million.

Owoyesigyire said the Police promptly visited and documented all the scenes of crime before launching a pursuit along the Northern Bypass after receiving a tip-off from the public.

“One suspect, identified as Joseph Wataba, was intercepted and neutralised after he attempted to attack officers with a panga,” he said.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for medical attention as investigations continue.

During the operation, the Police recovered a motorcycle, registration number UMA 582HF, a panga, and a Galaxy tablet believed to have been stolen during the robberies.

Owoyesigyire said other suspects managed to flee, but efforts are ongoing to track them down and recover additional stolen property.
