Police in Koboko district have arrested and detained a police officer attached to Oraba Police Station over the alleged embezzlement of sh2,620,000 in recovered Emyooga funds.
The officer, identified as Joseph Ochwa, who is attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at Oraba Police Station, was arrested by the Koboko district Criminal Investigations Directorate following a complaint from members of the Koboko Municipal Mechanics Emyooga SACCO.
The members accuse Ochwa of recovering money meant for the SACCO and allegedly misappropriating it.
The officer in charge of CID in Koboko, Geoffrey Otieno, confirmed the arrest and said investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, Koboko resident district commissioner Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka says the alleged offence was committed between February and April this year.

He says the Government has a standing directive against corruption and embezzlement of funds meant for livelihood programmes.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The West Nile police spokesperson, Josephine Angucia, was, by press time, yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident after receiving a briefing from the investigating officers in Koboko.
