A senior police officer has been arrested in Kampala after allegedly turning his pistol on colleagues during a chaotic confrontation at Jinja Road Police Station, where his wife had reportedly lost in the NRM party primaries.


According to police records under JRD/CRB/642/2025, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sam Kwizera, 49, attached to the Police Construction Department, was arrested on Saturday, August 16, after storming Jinja Road Police Station with one Tony Mugulizi and confronting NRM presiding officer Grace Auma, 27, who was compiling results for Ngobi village, Kololo 4 parish.

Witnesses said Kwizera accused election officials and agents of cheating his wife, identified only as Jordan, before he became violent and began intimidating rival supporters.

“He attempted to draw a pistol on officers who tried to restrain him, assaulted colleagues, and damaged office furniture in the process,” reads the report.

During the fracas, Detective Corporal Bajilo Okello, 30, and other officers were allegedly assaulted as they tried to calm the situation.

The team eventually overpowered Kwizera and disarmed him before placing him under arrest.

Police said the officer is being held at Jinja Road Police Station pending investigations, while inquiries into the role of his civilian accomplice, Mugulizi, are also ongoing.

“The matter is under investigation and appropriate action will be taken,” according to the report.
