Police on Thursday, September 11, 2025, said they had recovered a human body gruesomely chopped into pieces and stuffed in a wooden box along Manja-Muzinda Road in Buloba swamp.

Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, said a bricklayer was the one who saw the wooden box and alerted police on September 10, 2025.

“Nsangi Police Division is investigating a disturbing suspected murder case involving a wooden box found along Manja-Muzinda Road in Buloba swamp. William Musoke, a bricklayer, spotted the locked wooden box at 11:10 am on September 10, 2025. He reported the incident to Nsangi police at 7:30 pm the same day. A team of police officers visited the scene, and the box containing suspected human remains was taken to the city mortuary for postmortem examination,” Onyango said.

He revealed that inquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the person and the perpetrators of the crime.

“The nature of the discovery, cut pieces suspected to be human, suggests a potentially gruesome crime. Nsangi Police Division is working to uncover the circumstances surrounding this incident. The police are making an appeal to the public, particularly those who have a missing family member or know someone who might be unaccounted for, to visit Mulago City Mortuary. The purpose is to assist authorities in identifying the victim whose remains were found in a wooden box along Manja-Muzinda Road in Buloba swamp,” Onyango added.

He noted that, “This appeal is part of the ongoing investigation into the suspected murder case. Identification of the victim is a critical step in understanding the circumstances of the case and potentially locating suspects or persons connected to the incident,” Onyango added.

This will not be the first time a body stuffed in a bag or suitcase has been recovered.

In July 2013, the body of Immaculate Onebe Mary Aiso, loaded in a sack with blocks wired to her chest, was recovered from a septic tank at her matrimonial home in Muyenga, Makindye division, Kampala district. The deceased’s husband, senior accountant Francis Onebe, who had earlier reported her as missing, and their security guard, Bonny Oriekot, have since been charged over the incident.

In February this year, residents of Rukungiri district recovered the body of an unidentified man, bound in a sack and floating in a river.
