Police in the North West Nile region are investigating a case of electoral violence involving supporters of the aspirants for the LC5 seat in Adjumani district.

According to the district police commander of Adjumani, his office received a report on November 23, 2025, concerning clashes between supporters of the NRM flag bearer for district chair, John Anyanzo, and those of independent candidate Ben Anyama.

The police spokesperson for the North West Nile region, Collins Asea, said supporters of the NRM flag bearer were allegedly attacked by supporters of the independent candidate at Mbere village as they returned from a campaign rally.

Similarly, the incumbent candidate reported to the DPC that supporters of his opponent had mobilised to attack him as he left a radio talk show. This prompted police to deploy officers to the local radio station to prevent any attack on the premises.

It is further alleged that supporters of the independent candidate impounded a motorcycle belonging to a supporter of the NRM flag bearer at Mbere village.

Asea said a supporter of the NRM flag bearer, Agnes Morika, who was riding the motorcycle, had it forcefully taken from her, and her phone, valued at sh500,000, was also stolen.

The police spokesperson said a case of robbery has been registered under SDREF 47/23/11/2025 in Adjumani.

One suspect, James Edema, has been arrested to assist with investigations.

Asea added that the motorcycle was later found abandoned along a road in the district and has since been returned to the owner.

Police in Adjumani have appealed to candidates in the Madi subregion and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully during the election period.
