The Police in Rukiga district have arrested a man after he was allegedly found riding the motorcycle of a bodaboda rider who was earlier on Wednesday found hacked to death.
Medson Byamukama, 34, a bodaboda rider and resident of Nyakagyera cell, Nyaburambi parish, Rwamucucu sub-county in Rukiga district, is said to have disappeared on May 24, 2023, at around 1:00 pm.
His disappearance along with his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFA 648R, caused suspicion and fear for his wellbeing from his workmates and relatives.
Kigezi region Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, in a statement, said Byamukama's body was recovered yesterday, May 31, in a bush.
It is said residents discovered the body about 10 meters off the main road leading to Butambi cell, Noozi parish in Rwamucucu sub-county.
Maate said residents tipped the Police that then visited the scene and took the body to Mparo Health Centre IV for a postmortem as investigations got underway.
He said that fortunately, Byamukama’s motorcycle was on the same day, Wednesday, recovered in Nyamweru sub-county in Rubanda district and nabbed with the suspect, one Ismail Akandwanaho who was riding it.
The Police said that after a tip-off, Akandwanaho was intercepted and arrested for questioning and was still being detained as investigations continue.
It is suspected that he was part of the ploy to murder Byamukama after he was hired to transport someone from his stage.
The case of murder has been recorded as Rukiga CRB 253/2023.
