Police on Saturday (January 10) confirmed they had arrested National Unity Platform (NUP) head of mobilisation, Habib Buwembo, together with two other party members.
Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson Racheal Kawala named the other two as Ronald Katabala and Josephine Nakakembo.
“The Uganda Police Force would like to confirm the arrest of Buwembo, Katabala and Nakakembo. The three are currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court in due course,” she said.
She did not reveal why the trio were arrested.
NUP leader and presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi condemned the arrests, describing them as "abductions" and "cowardly tactics".
In July last year, Buwembo pulled out of the Rubaga South parliamentary race to fully commit to his role as the party’s national secretary for mobilisation.
He has since traversed several districts throughout the country, mobilising votes for the party’s flagbearers both at the national, parliamentary and local government levels.
