Karuma Bridge along the Gulu-Kampala highway is going to be temporarily closed for three hours, New Vision Online has learnt.
The works and transport ministry says the move to be undertaken today, March 4, 2026, is to enable the retrieval of a trailer that overturned on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Because of the traffic delays and temporary inconvenience expected during this period, the ministry has advised motorists to plan their journey and approach the area with caution.
This will not be the first time the bridge has been closed. Last year, the bridge was closed to enable ministry engineers carry out repairs.
On Sunday, the driver of a trailer carrying sacks of maize flour lost control after reportedly experiencing brake failure while descending and negotiating the bridge approach.
One trailer unit remained overturned on the carriageway, partially obstructing the traffic flow.
Police said no fatalities were reported.
