Police in Gulu city have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged illegal possession of ammunition following the recovery of a loaded magazine containing 30 rounds.

The suspects have been identified as Joshua Opwomungu, 18, and Willy Kilama, 40, both residents of Pece Prisons Cell in Laroo-Pece division, Gulu city.

According to the Aswa West Region Police spokesperson, David Mudong Ongom, the ammunition was reported to police on February 15, 2026, by Bernard Ouma Oweka, who said he discovered it under his bed, wrapped in a white cover, while cleaning his room.

Ongom explained that Oweka told investigators he had previously entrusted his house keys to neighbours identified as Moses Komakech and two others, identified only as Aciro and Layet, as he was planning to be away for some time.

Upon returning last Thursday (February 12), Oweka reportedly found his door lock broken and several items missing, including two bicycles, clothes and other household property.

When he made inquiries, Komakech allegedly informed him that the two suspects had been staying in his house during his absence, which led to their arrest.

Police confirmed that the loaded magazine containing 30 rounds was recovered and documented as an exhibit.

Detectives are currently recording statements from the suspects and other relevant witnesses as they work to compile a case file, according to Ongom.

The two suspects are being held at the Gulu City East policing division as investigations continue.
