Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) on Thursday, March 14, said together with other security agencies and local leaders, they had conducted a series of disruptive operations in parts of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area following complaints from the public about increasing criminal activities.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the KMP deputy spokesperson, revealed that in total, 175 suspects were arrested during these operations.
"On March 11th, 2026, an operation was carried out in Musajjalumbwa Zone and Namayiba Bus Terminal under the Old Kampala policing area targeting criminal gangs involved in robberies, phone snatching, abuse of narcotic substances, and attacks on pedestrians, especially at night, " Owoyesigyire said.
He explained that during the operation, 97 suspects were arrested, and exhibits, including narcotic substances, a hammer, knives, and other suspected crime tools, were recovered.
The suspects, Owoyesigyire said, were charged at Old Kampala Police Station and remain in custody pending court.
"On March 12th, 2026, another operation was conducted in Kiwatule Central Zone targeting individuals involved in the abuse of narcotic substances and related criminal activities. Twenty-eight suspects were arrested and are currently detained pending screening and court processes," Owoyesigyire added.
Owoyesigyire said that joint security operations conducted on the night of March 11th to 12th, 2026, in Seeta and Nasuti in Mukono District targeted criminal hotspots associated with the abuse of narcotic substances, robberies, burglaries, and thefts.
"These operations resulted in the arrest of 50 suspects, who are currently detained pending screening and prosecution," he stated.
Owoyesigyire said KMP will continue carrying out disruptive operations to dismantle criminal networks, curb the abuse of narcotic substances, and improve the safety and security of communities.
"The public is encouraged to continue sharing information with the Police to support crime prevention," he noted.
