Police arrest 559 suspects in week-long crime crackdown in Kampala

KAMPALA - Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) have arrested 559 suspects during a week-long intelligence-led operation targeting criminal activity across the metropolitan area.
Speaking at Police Headquarters in Naguru , Kampala, today (August 3), KMP spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the disruptive operations were conducted between July 27 and August 2.
“The operations resulted in the arrest of 559 suspects involved in various criminal activities. So far, 308 suspects have been taken to court, while others were cautioned, released on police bond or remain under active investigation,” Kawala said.
She said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crime, improve public safety and disrupt criminal networks operating within Kampala Metropolitan area.

Kawala noted that police will sustain intelligence-led operations to deter crime and ensure offenders are brought to justice.
“We remain committed to protecting lives and property through sustained operations and public cooperation. We urge residents to continue sharing information that can help police prevent and investigate crime,” she said.
She added that police will continue working closely with communities to maintain security across Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono and surrounding areas.
The operations follow similar others that have happened since the beginning of this year, where thousands of suspects have been arrested.
