PLU does not compete with NRM, they work closely - Tayebwa

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) does not compete with the National Resistance Movement (NRM), but works closely and complements the ruling political party, the deputy speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has said.
Tayebwa, who was today (September 7) the chief guest at the launch of the PLU website in Naguru, Kampala, said; "The NRM remains our political home, while PLU provides a civic platform to organise citizens, especially young people, around patriotism, national service, and the defence of Uganda’s gains."
Tayebwa noted that PLU was carrying out is an organised, lawful, and nationwide expression of confidence in a leader (Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba), who has already dedicated his life to the defence and development of Uganda.
"Today, I joined several dignitaries and patriots at the PLU secretariat where we launched a civic endorsement of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as our country’s President come 2031. This is our own choice as citizens to call upon him to accept our request for him to lead us once the father of the nation, President Yoweri Museveni, retires," Tayebwa stated.
The launch was attended by Ministers, Members of Parliament, senior citizens, representatives of the business community, and other patriotic Ugandans.
Currently, Gen. Muhoozi is the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and a senior presidential advisor in charge of special operations.
According to the UPDF Act, Gen. Muhoozi will have to retire from the army if he is to join elective politics.
Section 99 of the UPDF Act stipulates; "A serving officer or militant who desires to seek political office shall first resign or retire from the defence forces according to regulations made by the minister (of defence)."
The website, according to PLU, will be a platform for connecting leadership, mobilisation, membership, information and data management in one integrated system.
“The platform will have the highest levels of technology and uphold the PLU values of patriotism, discipline and service,” Basaliza said.
Recalling the time Muhoozi led troops in Amuria District during Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army insurgency, veteran politician Capt. Mike Mukulu described Muhoozi as one of the greatest fighters in the country.
“PLU is not just a pressure group; it is a leadership whose time has come. There is nothing that can stop the generational leadership that Muhoozi is going to offer,” he said.
Mukula commended PLU for its war against corruption, calling for the group to carry on the NRM torch of unity, keeping the country progressive and transformational.
Veteran opposition politician Odonga Otto (former Aruu county MP) appreciated Muhoozi for championing road infrastructure initiatives as well as fighting corruption.
“I don’t have a PLU number yet, and I have not been called for one, but what I can say is thank you for the fight against corruption,” he stated.
