KAMPALA - One person has been confirmed dead and another rescued alive following the collapse of a building in Makindye Division, Kampala, police have said.
Addressing journalists at Police headquarters in Naguru on Monday, June 16, 2025, Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said the structure caved in on the evening of June 15, 2025.
“Police responded to an incident where a building collapsed in Makindye Division. There were reports that several people had been trapped inside. Rescue teams managed to save one person alive and recovered one body from the debris,” Kituuma said.
He added that the injured survivor was rushed to a nearby health centre, while the deceased was taken to the City Mortuary in Mulago.
Kituuma applauded community vigilance, saying: “This call came through from a resident, who had police contacts. I have always urged the public to maintain civic competence and keep in touch with their police for quicker response during emergencies.”
