New LC1 chairperson among seven held in sh69m Arua city robbery probe

Police in Arua city have arrested seven people, including a newly sworn-in Local Council 1 chairperson, over an alleged robbery involving sh69 million belonging to an Indian businessman.
The suspects include Saidi Kapere, the LC1 chairperson of Adriko cell, Muzaid Amba, also known as Zaza, Mohamed Ali, Rashid Igga, Ramadhan Kamil, Farooq Juma and Ashraf Aga.
Police say the suspects were identified through CCTV footage and information provided by one of their alleged colleagues.
The incident reportedly occurred on August 15, 2026, on Adumi Road in Arua city, when Raj Patel, the manager of Muke Commodities, was travelling to Wall Forex Bureau with the money.
Police say Patel stopped along the road after encountering a procession but was later followed by two men on a numberless motorcycle, who knocked his front tyre before grabbing his bag and fleeing.
The suspects reportedly escaped towards the Hindu temple, where Patel lost sight of them.

Police say investigations based on CCTV footage led to the arrests, with the case registered under CRB 551 of 2026.
