Parliament has vetted Justice Flavian Zeija as the new Chief Justice.
According to a post by both Parliament and Speaker Anita Among, the House appointments committee convened this January 22, 2026, morning to vet Zeija, who was appointed by President Yoweri Museveni to serve as the Chief Justice of the Republic of Uganda.
"The committee's report will be forwarded to the appointing authority in accordance with our rules of procedure," Among said.
Zeija who is known for his strong administrative leadership and judicial reforms, is currently being vetted by the Parliament appointment committee, chaired by the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.
Who is Zeija
Zeija is a Ugandan lawyer, academic and former judge of the High Court of Uganda, who doubled as the country’s Principal Judge, effective December 25, 2019, until his appointment as Deputy Chief Justice on February 7, 2025.
He has a wide experience as a practising attorney. He started out in 1998, as a legal assistant with Kwesigabo, Bamwine, Walubiri and Company Advocates, a Kampala-based law firm.
In the past, he worked at Tropical Africa Bank as manager of legal and recovery, between 2002 and 2003. He also worked at FINCA Uganda Limited as legal counsel. At the time he was appointed to the High Court of Uganda, he served as the managing partner at Zeija, Mukasa and Company Advocates.
