Authorities in Mukono Central Division, Mukono Municipality, have directed all taxi operators and transport stakeholders within the division to relocate their stages to the main taxi park in a bid to restore order in traffic flow and business operations.

In an official notice issued by the Mukono Municipal Council, all taxi stages currently operating across Mukono Central Division have been given a strict deadline of April 10, 2026, to fully comply with the directive.

The order affects several transport groups, including operators from Mukono-Kayunga Road stage, Kampala Road stage, Kawolo-Jinja stage, and Nkokonjeru-Katosi routes, as well as pick-up and lorry drivers and the wider business community.

According to the notice signed by Mukono Central Division acting principal assistant town clerk Abubaker Wassajja, the relocation is aimed at streamlining the loading and offloading of passengers, easing congestion, and improving overall urban order.

Wassajja emphasised that the move is urgent and necessary to restore smooth trade and traffic movement within the municipality.

To ensure a coordinated transition, stakeholders have been invited to an action-oriented meeting scheduled for April 9, 2026, at the Mukono Central Division gardens. Leaders of the affected groups are expected to attend and discuss implementation strategies ahead of the enforcement deadline.

The directive has also been copied to key security and administrative offices, including the police, internal security, and municipal leadership, signalling strict enforcement once the deadline lapses.

Local authorities say the relocation is part of broader efforts to improve urban management and create a more organised transport system in Mukono.

The directive comes just days after the Mukono Municipal Council enforcement team forcefully evicted businesses operating in illegal spaces, particularly within road reserves across the municipality.

Hundreds of members of the Mukono business community have since raised concerns, claiming they lost property worth millions during the operation as authorities moved to implement the eviction.
