The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem, held talks with Ambassador Juan Humberto Macias Pino, the Chargé D'affaires of the Embassy of Cuba, at a meeting in Kampala, where they discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest between the two countries.
The ministry revealed that during the meeting hosted at Oryem's office on Thursday, September 18, Ambassador Pino confirmed that the Republic of Cuba will participate in the upcoming NAM Ministerial Mid-term Review Summit slated for 14th-16th October, 2025, at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo.
The two also discussed matters on the agenda of the upcoming 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The Minister extended appreciation of the role the Cuban government played towards the liberalisation of Uganda and the African continent in general, highlighting the significant assistance extended during the Apartheid regime, and the Namibian war to Independence, among others.
According to a media handout, Oryem also thanked the government of the Republic of Cuba for its excellent bilateral cooperation in the fields of education through offering scholarships and the health sector, in spite of the unilateral economic sanctions imposed on them by the United Nations and European Union.
