Security intercepts 100 Ugandans recruited for combat in Russia

The recruits, all with military experience — including Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) veterans and former contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan — were reportedly promised salaries of up to $6,250 (about sh22.2m) per month.

Security sources revealed that the recruits’ group is part of a larger pool of more than 100 Ugandans targeted for phased deployment to the Russia-Ukraine war zone, and the first batch was scheduled to leave this week.
