Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said millions of Ugandans, especially the youth, are supporting his Patriotic League of Uganda’s (PLU) quiet and patient revolution.
Muhoozi, who also serves as PLU chairman, took to his social media platform X account on Thursday (October 22) to express his gratitude to all those supporting the PLU campaign for his presidency come 2031 national polls.
“I thank the millions of Ugandans, especially the youth, for supporting our quiet and patient revolution. As Che Guevara used to say, ‘Venceremos!’ We shall win in 2031!” he posted.
Venceremos is translated as “we shall triumph”, posted Kainerugaba, who is also Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations.
Che Guevara was an Argentine-born Cuban revolutionary leader who became a left-wing hero. He was executed on October 9, 1967, in the Bolivian village of La Higuera, and his body was buried in a secret location.
However, in 1997 his remains were discovered, exhumed and returned to Cuba, where he was reburied.
Igara East MP Michael Mawanda, who is PLU’s director of mobilisation, was among those who swiftly replied to the CDF’s post.
“I assure you, our next president, that millions of Ugandans are patiently waiting to vote for you in 2031. Victory is ours!”
Political endorsements
On September 8, 2026, the CDF announced that the PLU campaign had received over 5,200 political endorsements in one day.
He also took to his X account to express his gratitude for the support.
“I thank the thousands of our great citizens who have already endorsed our campaign so far. Yesterday (September 7), over 5,200 citizens affixed their signatures to the endorsement books at one of our offices,” he said.
The four-star general, who is known in political circles by his initials MK, also said they (PLU) were determined to uphold President Yoweri Museveni’s great legacy and achieve their development goals.
On August 25, 2026, Muhoozi announced that he would stand for the highest office in the land in 2031 and that he and his PLU would win by the grace of Almighty God.
“From now until 2031, I want our great PLU to carry out endorsement rallies in the 146 districts of Uganda. We want all our people with us when we stand! We want 90% of the vote,” he added in another X post.
He also declared that President Museveni would be his campaign manager in 2031.
“With my great father, Mzee’s support I will get 90% in the elections in 2031.”
Muhoozi had moved in a subterranean fashion for over two decades before his supporters started the MK Movement in April 2022 to appreciate his military service and those of his comrades.
The MK Movement morphed into PLU in February 2024 as a civic organisation to mobilise Ugandans towards the goal of national unity, peace and stability.
On September 1, 2026, PLU launched a campaign for 20 million endorsement signatures for his presidential bid and stated that it (bid) was sanctioned by the President himself.
According to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Act, Gen. Muhoozi will have to retire from the army if he is to join elective politics.
Section 99 of the UPDF Act stipulates: "A serving officer or militant who desires to seek political office shall first resign or retire from the defence forces according to regulations made by the minister (of defence).”
