Promote economic empowerment among believers, religious leaders urged

“GPN focuses heavily on economic empowerment alongside spiritual growth, aiming to fight poverty within the Pentecostal and Born-Again (Balokore) churches. So, we want the clergy and believers to shift from being job seekers to job creators,” adding that Christians should complement prayer with practical work and financial literacy.

Addressing pastors, Mugisha stated that the church must break the long-standing cycle of poverty within Pentecostal communities in Uganda and urged leaders to support social and development programmes aimed at improving the welfare of communities.

MUKONO - The National President and patron of the Generation Pastors Network (GPN), Apostle Gift Mugisha, has challenged religious leaders to encourage their followers to pursue improved standards of living, saying spiritual development should go hand in hand with economic empowerment.

“Our mission is to break the spirit of poverty which has perturbed the Pentecostal Church in Uganda over time. It’s time for the born-again Christians to come out of poverty,” Mugisha said.

Mugisha made the remarks on October 15 2026, while commissioning Mukono District Generational Pastors Fellowship Sacco offices under the GPN Mukono along Ssaza Road, Mukono Municipality.

Addressing pastors, he stated that the church must break the long-standing cycle of poverty within Pentecostal communities in Uganda and urged leaders to support social and development programmes aimed at improving the welfare of communities.

Mugisha donated Sh15 million to the Sacco, emphasising that pastors should lead by example, cultivate farms, start businesses, and stop relying solely on congregational giving

The Sacco is headed by Apostle Moses Kabanda, the GPN Mukono chairperson and lead Pastor at House of Restoration Ministries.

Kabanda said the Generation Pastors Network brings together church leaders from different generations with a focus on spiritual growth, economic empowerment and national development.

He hinted at plans to establish Uganda's first Born-Again Christians Bank and mobilised GPN leaders and members to scale up their savings, trade, and invest in large-scale agricultural and business ventures.

He added that GPN will utilise Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs) to build member portfolios and serve as the foundation for their transition into a larger commercial banking institution.

Pastors also expressed support for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the 2031–2036 presidential election cycle and signed endorsement books.

The exercise was part of a nationwide initiative seeking to collect 20 million signatures in support of Kainerugaba, who is the PLU's national chairman and has declared his intention to contest for president in 2031.

The pastors highlighted why they support  President Yoweri Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM), saying the regime has shaped Uganda's development across peace, economy, and infrastructure since taking power in 1986.
