The Director Law Development Center (LDC) Frank Nigel Othembi has cancelled ongoing examinations due to suspected cheating.

In an email seen by the New Vision to the Head of Bar Course/Academic Registrar, Othembi indicated that it was dishonesty and an abuse of LDC decision to allow some materials in the exam.

“It has come to my attention that very many students have smuggled prohibited materials into the legal practice skills II examination. This examination malpractice could lead to direct consequences for a big number of our bar course students (intake1). This is dishonesty and an abuse of our decision to allow some materials in the exam,” Othembi stated.

He noted that he had taken the decision to cancel the entire examination.

“Please inform the students accordingly and stop the ongoing examinations. I will in due course inform the students of further steps for redoing the examinations,” Othembi added.

LDC is the only institution in Uganda that offers the Bar Course leading to the award of the post-graduate Diploma in Legal Practice to allow lawyers who have graduated from different Universities be able to practice law.

Sources at LDC who spoke to the New Vision noted that most of the exam leakage at the center were not by the lecturers but by those who handle the papers the moment the questions are printed out.
