LANGO - The paramount chief of Lango (Won Nyaci), Eng. Doctor Michael Moses Odongo Okune, has restructured his administration with the appointment of new cabinet ministers and the formation of specialised committees aimed at strengthening governance and promoting socio-economic development across the region.
The appointments were contained in an official decree delivered to the speaker of the Council of Owitong on October 5, 2026. The new leadership brings together politicians, academics, professionals and youth leaders to support cultural preservation and community development.
Key cabinet appointments
Among the appointments, Denis Hamson Obua of the Atek Okwerowee clan becomes ambassador extraordinary plenipotentiary, serving as the Won Nyaci's high-level international and national representative.
Francis Ogwang of Oumolao has been appointed 5th deputy prime minister in charge of general duties. He will oversee special task forces and monitor institutional programmes
Awitong Ambrose Agec Opio of Omolo Atar Odyakol clan becomes deputy minister for peace building, liaison and local government liaison. He will manage relations with local government leaders and address traditional asset and property restitution matters under Cap 243.
Nicholas Karamagi Ogwang Ogoo of the Bako Ojota clan has been appointed deputy minister for finance, planning and revenue for investment and diaspora affairs. He will mobilise the Lango diaspora and lead the establishment of the Lango Investment Board.
Awitong Ambrose Ocen of Otengoro Olang becomes deputy minister for employment and labour and coordinator of Lango public servants and professionals. He will mobilise professionals across the region and support career development.
Agriculture and financial oversight
The newly formed agriculture, veterinary and fisheries committee, chaired by Awitong Benson Odongo, will focus on climate-smart farming techniques, regional demonstration farms and post-harvest management.
The audit, investigations and compliance committee, led by Awitong Robert Okello, will oversee financial accountability. Its responsibilities include conducting semi-annual financial audits, investigating the misuse of institutional resources and undertaking technical audits of infrastructure projects.
Youth, sports and child welfare
The games and sports committee, chaired by Awitong Ongodo Santos, will organise sports tournaments under the royal banner, promote traditional games such as the Aloi marathon and support efforts to combat youth substance abuse.
Alebtong district woman MP Dr Mercy Faith Lakica will head the youth committee, which will focus on economic empowerment, vocational training and cultural orientation for young people
The children's affairs committee, led by Awitong John Bosco Nyankol, will focus on safeguarding children's rights under Ugandan law, curbing child marriage and supporting health and education initiatives.
Cultural recognition and heritage
The Won Nyaci has also established the Lango Heroes Award Committee under the leadership of Professor Celestino Obua
The committee will identify historical and contemporary figures for royal recognition and oversee the establishment of a permanent Lango Heroes Square.
