KAMPALA - Police are investigating circumstances under which a 43-year-old Kenyan woman allegedly stabbed her five children this morning (August 20) at Kalungu-Bunga in Makindye Division, Kampala, leaving two of them dead.
According to Kampala Metropolitan police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, detectives in Kampala Metropolitan Police South, through Kabalagala Police Division, are investigating a case of murder, attempted murder and arson reported at Kalungu-Bunga in Makindye Division.
It is alleged that a housemaid was awakened by an alarm and cries for help from children in the main house, and upon checking, she found the children with serious injuries and calling for help.
"The maid immediately opened the house and discovered several children with severe stab wounds. Daizy Khadija, a 14-year-old female juvenile, was found dead in her bedroom, while Hawa Dalena, 7, later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at Nsambya Hospital," Owoyesigyire said.
He added that three other children, aged 13, 8 and 5, survived the attack and were rushed to hospital for medical attention. Owoyesigyire said the incident occurred today, August 20, 2026, at about 4:00am.
"The suspect in the matter has been identified as Namayo Dorothy, a 43-year-old Kenyan national and mother of the victims. She was also found injured and is currently admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital under police guard," he stated.
During the incident, Owoyesigyire said a Toyota Hiace vehicle at the premises was also set on fire, and it got completely burnt. He said the Police Fire Prevention Rescue Services responded and extinguished the fire. A jerrycan suspected to have contained petrol was recovered from the scene, he added.
"Police responded immediately and visited the scene, where a team of homicide detectives, Scene of Crime Officers and Fire and Rescue personnel examined and documented the scene. Exhibits were recovered for forensic examination," according to Owoyesigyire.
The bodies of the deceased juveniles (Khadija and Dalena) were conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.
He said the case was registered at Kabalagala Police Station and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the motive behind the attack.
Police have recorded statements from relevant witnesses, and the suspect remains under police guard as inquiries continue.
