Kasiwukira murderers fail to overturn 20-year prison sentence

The court found that the prosecution had proved the criminal liability of Nakungu and Ashraf independently of the case against the acquitted co-accused. The Supreme Court decision reaffirms the earlier rulings of the High Court and Court of Appeal in the matter. Kasiwukira’s death on October 17, 2014, prompted a Police investigation that later led to the arrest and prosecution of his widow, Nabikolo, her cousin Nakungu and Police officer Ashraf.

On the acquittal of Kasiwukira’s widow, Sarah Nabikolo Ssebunya (L), the Supreme Court held that the acquittal of one accused person does not automatically result in the acquittal of co accused persons where there is independent evidence against them.
