Several areas within the Kampala Metropolitan Service Area on Saturday, February 28, experienced water shortages following a power outage that disrupted operations at the Ggaba water treatment plant, according to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC).

"The current water supply interruption in Kampala Metropolitan Service Area is due to a power outage affecting water production and supply schedules at Ggaba Water Treatment Plant."

It added that it was "closely working with a team from Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) to address this challenge in the shortest time possible."

NWSC noted that, "subsequently, water supply to majority of our customers in the Kampala City Metropolitan Service Area has been interrupted".

Customers were advised to use the available water sparingly during the downtime.

In November last year, several areas in and around Kampala experienced a water crisis that was attributed to vandalism of the main power line in Mukono district that supplies power to the Katosi water plant.
