Kampala businessman accused of murdering maid's boyfriend remanded

The Chief Magistrate's Court at Makindye, Kampala city, has remanded businessman John Peter Murwana, a resident of Karungu zone in Bunga parish, Makindye, for shooting dead his maid's boyfriend.

Murwana was arraigned on May 7, 2026, before Magistrate Ann Sarah Basemera, who read him the charges of murder and attempted murder. However, he was not allowed to take a plea for the capital offences as the presiding magistrate has no jurisdiction to try capital offences.

"Anything you want to say will be before high court ", Basemera told Murwana.

He was remanded to Luzira until June 18, 2026, for mention of the case.

Charges

Prosecution charge sheet presented before the court states that Murwana, with malice aforethought, caused the death of Kevin Atwijukye on April 26, 2026, which is contrary to sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128.

The second of attempted murder. It is alleged that on the same day of the murder, Murwana attempted to cause the death of Joan Narima. This is contrary to section 187 of the Penal Code Act.

Sources privy to the case indicated that on the fateful day, Narima, the housemaid at Murwana's home, called her boyfriend, who came and entered her room.

When the house's security guard saw this, he called Murwana and told him what had happened. Murwana allegedly drew a pistol and shot Narima and later Atwijukye, who was trying to flee. The murder victim allegedly died on the spot at the gate.
