“O! beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on”
In Shakespeare's play Othello, Iago uses the statement to warn Othello of the dangers of jealousy in Act 3, Scene 3.
It is this green-eyed monster that engulfed Teddy Tibeita, 25, on New Year's Day to murder her stepdaughter.
Now, the territorial Police in Mityana district have arrested Tibeita over allegedly murdering Irene Nakiyinji Nabbosa.
According to Wamala region Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the victim, a pupil at Ssonko Joy Primary School and daughter of Paul Katete, was reported missing on January 1, 2025, at about 7:46am. She was a resident of Zigoti East cell in Zigoti town council, Mityana district.
Tragically, the child’s body was discovered later the same day at about 4:00pm in a cassava garden within Zigoti East cell.
“Our task team reviewed footage from a nearby CCTV camera, which showed the suspect, Teddy Tibeita, moving with the victim towards the crime scene. This evidence led to her arrest,” Kawala explained.
Upon interrogation, Tibeita confessed to participating in the murder. A postmortem examination confirmed that the victim was not defiled but had been strangled.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Tibeita committed the crime out of envy after losing her one-month-old son in December 2024. She reportedly suspected her husband, Paul Katete, of having a hand in the infant’s death, which motivated the fatal attack on her stepdaughter.
Kawala confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
