Presiding over Christmas Mass at Nyamitanga Cathedral in Mbarara city on Thursday, he said that believing in God is where Christians find the strength, purpose, unity, and transformation needed for a better life.
Fr Stephen Angume, a Catholic priest at Uganda Martyrs parish in Mbarara City, also prayed for peaceful elections and urged Ugandans to desist from electoral malpractice and violence during the election period.
Ugandans will vote their next set of leaders early next year; as ongoing campaigns draw to an end.
Angume also urged Christians to work hard for development to get out of poverty, and also to support the needy during this Christmas time.
Mbarara City mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi, who attended Christmas Mass at Uganda Martyrs parish, told Christians that the birth of Jesus should be a renewal of their faith in the Lord, love, forgiveness and peace to one another, especially during this election period.
Kakyebezi urged Ugandans to spend wisely during these festivities, keeping in mind that schools will be reopening in the coming weeks.
At the same church, Mbarara City North MP Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari urged the electorate, especially the youth, not to engage in subversive politics that may lead to insecurity, but rather cooperate with security operatives during the election period.
