IGG directs interdiction of Obore, six other Parliament officials over corruption
The Inspectorate of Government says that public interest demands that while the case against the seven Parliament officials is still ongoing, they should be suspended from exercising the powers and functions of their offices.

Uganda's Inspector General of Government, Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, has directed the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, to immediately interdict seven senior officials of Parliament pending the final determination of the criminal proceedings over corruption against them.
The officials are:
▪️Chris Ariko Obore (director of communications and public affairs)
▪️Daniel Adilo (director of human resource)
▪️Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu (principal research officer)
▪️Emmanual Emuron Okwi (principal protocol officer)
▪️Vincent Otebata (capacity development officer)
▪️Leonard Okema (executive secretary, Office of Speaker)
▪️Stella Itute (office supervisoe, Office of Sergeant-at-Arms)
▪️Emmanual Emuron Okwi (principal protocol officer)
▪️Vincent Otebata (capacity development officer)
▪️Leonard Okema (executive secretary, Office of Speaker)
▪️Stella Itute (office supervisoe, Office of Sergeant-at-Arms)
The officials are currently on remand at Luzira Prison.
They were arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on July 1 this year and charged with embezzlement and causing financial loss, contrary to Sections 18(a)(i) and (ii), and 19(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, Cap. 116, respectively.
Article 230 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and Section 13(6) of the Inspectorate of Government (IG) Act, Cap 32 provide that:
"The Inspector General of Government may, during the course of his or her duties, or as a consequence of his or her findings, make such orders and give such directions as are necessary and appropriate in the circumstances."
In a Friday (July 31) statement, the Inspectorate of Government said that in the instant case, public interest demands that while the case against the seven Parliament officials is still ongoing at the Anti-Corruption Court, they should be suspended from exercising the powers and functions of their offices.
"The directive underscores the IG's commitment to safeguarding the integrity of public institutions and ensuring that due process is upheld while the matter is before the courts," said the IG.
