Hoima district party leaders have asked the national secretariat of the NRM party to consider extending the update of the party’s membership register because many people were left out.

Beatrice Wembabazi, a former contestant for the Hoima district woman Member of Parliament seat said that the exercise was marred by the law turn-up of the people in several areas.

She said that only 50% of the members have updated their names in many areas due to numerous challenges ranging from limited time and lack of proper sensitization.

“The party secretariat should consider extending the duration of the exercise because many of our people have been left out,” she said.

Wembabazi said that she had traversed different sub-counties in the Hoima district including Kyabigambire, Kitoba, Kigorobya, and Buseruka while monitoring the exercise but the turnout was very low.

“A lot of awareness and sensitization should be carried out so that all the party members can turn up and embrace the exercise,” she said.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairman President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was the first person to update his credentials l during the launch in Kampala appointing March 13 to 17, 2024 for the  national exercise

Gabriel Dema, the Hoima City NRM chairperson said many had their National Identification cards mortgaged to money lenders which makes it difficult for them to raise money urgently and regain them yet it is a condition to have it.

Justus Ahimbisibwe, a member of the NRM party in Hoima East Division blamed senior party officials in Hoima for failure to mobilize people to update the register.

“Many of our leaders who remained in Kampala didn't turn up to mobilize people for the exercise like it was in other areas, we are appealing to the party to extend more days so that all our members can be captured otherwise it will affect the outcomes of the party elections,” he said.
