Hearing of an election petition for the Kawempe South Constituency has kicked off today (September 14).
The petition was filed by National Unity Platform's head of mobilisation, Fred Nyanzi, who is contesting the win by National Resistance Movement's Madina Nsereko.
The Electoral Commissioner declared Nsereko the winner of the Kawempe South seat after the elections on January 15, 2026.

Dissatisfied with the outcome of the elections, Nyanzi petitioned the High Court, seeking nullification of the results.
He filed the petition against the Electoral Commission and Nsereko. The case is before Justice Faridah Bukirwa of the high court civil division.
Nyanzi, who was present in court, was represented by lawyers Alex Luganda and Robert Rutaro.
