“Yes, we have released the money for cars for MPs,” Ggoobi told journalists when asked whether the first quarter releases included vehicle facilitation. Beyond the one-off vehicle grant, MPs receive a monthly package comprising a taxable basic salary, constituency facilitation, housing allowance, town-running allowance and mileage based on the distance between Kampala and their constituencies.
Earlier, Parliament clerk Adolf Mwesige had informed MPs through a circular dated June 5 that sh300m had been budgeted for each legislator as a one-off contribution towards the purchase of a motor vehicle.
