KAMPALA - Five people suspected of being behind a string of violent robberies across the county were arrested last week following a foiled mobile money robbery.

Police identified the suspects as Ivan Gizamba, described as the key suspect, Rogers Muyingo, Arnold Juma, Musa Masiga and James Wanyama.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Gizamba could be linked to bodaboda criminal gangs who have been involved in several aggravated robberies in the Kampala Metropolitan area, including attacks connected to a hardware shop in Kiteezi, Wakiso district, Gwanda Mall in Kisenyi and Centenary Bank in Kampala recently.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police South, detectives acted on intelligence received on May 14, 2026, about a gang allegedly preparing to attack a person expected to ferry cash from Kalerwe to a bank agent in Wandegeya.

According to Police reports, the suspect was reportedly monitoring the victims and planning to strike during the transaction.

KMP Spokesperson Rachael Kawala reported that the Police swiftly mounted an operation that led to the arrest of the five men before the robbery could take place.

In a statement issued on Friday, Kawala said two motorcycles suspected to have been intended for use in the operation, registration numbers UGG 664A and UMA JW, were seized during the crackdown.

“We commend the Flying Squad team under the Directorate of Crime Intelligence who worked on intelligence information and managed to avert this robbery in time; otherwise, we would be in tears now,” one of the locals was overheard telling a friend upon the arrest of the five suspects.
