At least 10 members of a family in Koro Pida East Cell, Laroo–Pece Division, Gulu City, were left homeless on Monday (January 5) after unidentified individuals allegedly set their three grass-thatched huts ablaze.

Lilly Acan, 48, the head of the affected family, said the incident occurred while she was away from home.

She added that all three huts were completely burnt, along with household property inside.

A Radio Rupiny reporter who visited the scene shortly after the incident found community members offering support by donating a few essential items to the displaced family.

The chairperson of Koro Pida East cell, Gloria Oyella, confirmed the incident, stating that Acan and one of her daughters had earlier reported to her office that suspicious individuals had been loitering in the neighbourhood.

The family believes those individuals could be responsible for the arson.

Oyella has appealed to well-wishers and members of the public to support the affected family as investigations continue.
