Families left homeless after heavy rainstorm in Arua destroyed houses, property

ARUA - Seven people in Arua district have been left homeless after a heavy rainstorm destroyed their houses.

The Friday, August 09, rainstorm in Arua destroyed a handful of houses and properties, including crops.

The worst hit are communities in Erevu village, Nyirivu parish, Ajia sub-county in Vurra County, Arua district. 

The strong winds destroyed a lot of property, with many houses deroofed and a few of them reduced to rubble, according to Cosmos Ayikobua, the DLC5 councillor for Ajia Sub-County.

Ayikobua says he is yet to ascertain the level of destruction and specific number of houses destroyed, with properties and their values. 

One of the victims, Richard Echoko, sustained injuries after he was cut by a falling iron sheet from the roof and Isaac Anguyo whose house roof was completely blown off.

Others counting losses include Margaret Aziru, who lost the roof of her house, and Roy Asima, now homeless after a falling tree reduced his house to a heap of bricks. 
Other victims whose roofs were blown off are: Morish Odipio, Baifa Oyeru and Alfred Aguta.

The storm also destroyed food gardens.
