KALANGALA - When the fallen Kalangala District Woman MP, Helen Nakimuli, began experiencing stomach pains six days ago, she was not initially concerned.

She thought it might be a case of indigestion, but the pain persisted for days and later turned out to be a serious illness, a source within her National Unity Platform (NUP) party told New Vision on April 19, 2026.

The source said the news of her death came as a shock.

"She is the one who even collected our amabugo (financial donations) to the bereaved family of our jailed NUP deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro after the death of his wife," the source, who is an MP-elect, added.

Nakimuli, who was aged 41, died at Alexandra Medical Centre in Kampala on April 19, 2026.

NUP secretary for diaspora affairs Marvin Saasi told his followers on X that Nakimuli had stomach complications.

"She had stomach complications," Saasi, who is also a lawyer and a close ally of party president Robert Kyagulanyi, said when asked to explain the unsuccessful surgery Nakimuli died while undergoing.

He shared a video he recorded of Nakimuli in Jinja city on April 11, 2026, as they attended the burial of Mufumbiro's wife, Edith Katende.

"I remember on our way back to Kampala, full of life as ever, she took over the wheel as she felt I was driving too slowly. It's so sad that she has now also passed away this afternoon, as she underwent an operation," Saasi said.

Nakimuli was a first-time MP on the NUP ticket who was preparing for her second term after being re-elected in the January 15 general election.

Her last submission on the floor of Parliament was on April 15, 2026, during the debate on Uganda’s readiness to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

By the press time, her burial programme had not been released.
